The Summer Dance Intensive (SDI) offers technical training and artistic development within the discipline of dance. Participants are exposed to a rigorous curriculum fostering learning and personal growth, along with opportunities to experience the company’s repertoire through workshops and performances. The curriculum includes classes based in Horton, Graham, Ballet, African-Piragramic, Body Conditioning, Contemporary Movement. The curriculum also features The Continuum, a three-step process of self-awareness and growth.
The SDI program runs from Monday, June 22–Sunday, July 18, 2020, providing six to eight hours of training per day, six days a week. At the end of week four, dancers in all divisions share the stage in two culminating performances on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18, 2020. The program attracts local, national and international participants. The average age range of participating dancers is 16. At the conclusion of each SDI, qualified participants interested in continuing with Deeply Rooted meet with the artistic team to discuss their progress, capabilities, goals and potential placement in the Apprentice or Pre-Professional Programs. Deeply Rooted accepts SDI students by audition. Although live auditions are encouraged, candidates unable to attend a live audition may apply online.
